Lucid Dream – Hitting Heads

I had a little technical difficulties yesterday, but now I’m back…

Mysterious and beautiful, Lucid Dream is a can’t miss side project comprised Leo and Alice from Museum Of Bellas Artes.

Hitting Heads is the final song from their EP “Nonsense” released earlier this year. Consisting of breathy vocals and hypnotic melodies the beauty of the song leaves you in a dreamy state on this wonderful Monday morning. Now that I’ve listened to the EP, I am craving much more from this band. Love it!

Toi let – Lord of the Ring

The side project of YAST, Toi Let from Malmö is awesome. Though their name brings thoughts of bodily wastes, their songs don’t represent that at all. They recently released their EP titled “Lord of the Ring” You can check it out on SoundCloud below.

I’m really digging the guitar in their songs. I also love the shifts between songs from fast or slow to vocals or instrumental. All and all this is a pretty solid EP for a side project. Let them take you ears on a journey they will thank you for.

Samling – Natten (Eva Dahlgren re-vocal)

Last year, I tried learning Swedish along with my lovely friend Jackie. Lucky for her, she is in Sweden now and attending Swedish School. As for me, the only phrase I will remember is “Du är bäst!”

Moving on…I rarely post something in Swedish since I don’t understand the lyrics, but this is one song I can’t pass up. I really wished I knew what they were saying because the song is awesome.

School – So Long

I love School, and no I am not talking about the educational institution. I’m talking about the amazing band out of Göteborg. I wrote about School back in April when I first started my blog, but they are another band like Blessa from Sheffield that I can’t get enough of. They are also another band who puts out teasers making me want more. I was fumbling around at work trying to figure out what to listen to and I hit random and their song “So Long” came on. I know we are only half way through the years but I already know this will make my top of 2014. I am always scared to hear live recordings out of fear the band won’t sound great. But School sounds amazing. Identical to what their recordings sound like. I love it so much, I hope you can read the excitement and passion in my voice!

Lykke Li – Gunshot

“EEEEEEEEEEK” is what I said yesterday when Lykke posted the release of her new video “Gunshot.” Mostly because is it my favorite song of her new album “I Never Learn,” and I have been listening to it on repeat lately. Words can not express the impact her music has had on my life the past few years. I also can not describe how seeing her live made me feel other than the use of the word “magical” She’s such a moving performer, half way into her second song I found myself crying. And I’m not one for public displays of emotion. I don’t think I’ve ever had an artist touch my heart in the way that Lykke has album after album, song after song.

So below, you will find “Gunshot.” If you can not relate to this song or moved by it, you need a soul check. I can’t wait to see her again in October at Radio City Music Hall.

Zhala – Prophet

The first time I made it through this song I thought “What the hell just happened?”  I still am not sure.  But this video is very interesting and my brother beat me to featuring this song, but I think it’s cause at first it was a little too dance intensive for me.  But as most electropop does, it grew on me.

Westkust – Summer 3D

Not any offense to my friends with bands in Brooklyn, but I really wish that I lived in Göteborg when I hear a band like Westkust.  They are currently working on a new album and I can’t wait to hear what they have in store for us.  Many of you know my hesitation when I read something is shoe gaze.  I’d like to say this is a wonderful blend of twee, shoe gaze and dream pop.

Green Leaf – Trails and Passes

This is quite different from what I’ve been posting lately.  If I had heard this without knowing they were from Sweden, I would think they were from the UK.  Greenleaf describe themselves as “rock n’ roll, psychedelic, stoner, doom, blues, hard rock, fuzz, metal, sludge, vintage 70’s style rawk.”  I like to see this as part of the comeback of guitar rock that Alex Turner of the Arctic Monkey spoke about.   This stuff is great rock and roll.  I love the blues guitar mixed with psych rock.  I am so glad I stumbled upon this.
